After missing seven weeks with an injury that derailed the start of his 2026 minor league season, Orioles’ prospect Enrique Bradfield Jr. could become a secret weapon for the big league team down the stretch. Over the past few games, he has heated up at Triple-A Norfolk, and it shouldn't be too long before he gets a chance to prove himself in the big leagues.

Bradfield Jr. could become an Orioles prospect that the entire league becomes familiar with very quickly. Equipped with elite speed, the 5’11” outfielder may even be the fastest player that the team has seen in a long time. In 2024, Bradfield Jr. swiped a mind-numbing 74 bases in just 108 games in High-A and Double-A. Though he saw a sizable reduction in stolen base production in 2025, Bradfield Jr. was still still poised to vie for his first cup of coffee in the big leagues this season.

An unfortunate series of injuries interrupted what could have been an abbreviated minor league tune-up for the 24-year-old. A collision with an outfield wall and an awkward swing forced Bradfield Jr. to press pause on his development. When he first returned from his injury, he struggled quite a bit at the plate. Through his first 18 games at Norfolk, he was hitting just .194 with an OPS of .594, but over the last week he's slashed .440/.481/.480 and stolen nine bases in six games. He looks exactly like the player the Orioles drafted him to be.

Bradfield has bounced back from his injuries and the Orioles should call him up as soon as they can

While Colton Cowser and Leody Taveras have been mostly fine, they don't possess the game-changing explosiveness that Bradfield Jr. has shown. Although Tyler O'Neil has strung together a few decent games as of late, his presence in the lineup has essentially been a black hole all season. Perhaps more importantly, Bradfield Jr. could provide the Orioles a service that they are severely lacking in.

With just 38 stolen bases through their team's first 73 games, the Orioles are not a running team. In fact, they are in the bottom 10 in team steals in all of MLB. Even worse, the team has been thrown out 17 times when they have tried to steal. This leaves the perfect opening for Bradfield Jr. to make his splash with the club. The outfielder put his 80-grade speed on display in just three games for Panama in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. While he only nabbed two bases, Bradfield Jr. showed the type of upside that he possessed on a global stage.

Throughout the 2026 season, the Orioles have shown no signs of struggling to score runs. With 343 runs scored, they rank sixth in the league. But it is still very tempting to imagine a burner on the base paths ahead of the run producers in the lineup. As the pitching staff continues to struggle to keep opponents off the board, an extra run or two on offense can make all of the difference in the world between a win and a loss. And a player like Bradfield Jr. could easily turn a game on its head with a perfectly-timed steal and moving into scoring position.

Time will tell whether or not Bradfield Jr. has a chance to show off his blazing speed at the big league level this season. But with an Orioles team that is well within striking distance of a Wild Card spot, the front office might not want to keep the speedster locked away in the minors for too long.
