Checking in on Orioles’ new prospects from blockbuster Adley Rutschman trade

The Baltimore Orioles got what can only be described as a haul of prospects from the Boston Red Sox in return for Adley Rutschman. Not only did they get a top-100 prospect in baseball with Anthony Eyanson, they also got another top arm in Kyson Witherspoon, a high end outfield prospect in Enddy Azocar, and a former top international signee in Harold Rivas. To top it off, they got a catcher who showed a lot of promise in 2025 and has another four years of team control in Carlos Narvaez.

While Narvaez has struggled with the major league squad, three of the four prospects have made multiple appearences in the organization (it's unlikely Rivas will make his organizational debut in 2026 as he was in the FCL and their season ended) and had great success.

How's the Orioles return in Adley Rutschman trade looking so far?

Anthony Eyanson

The 21-year-old former third round pick has looked every bit the top-100 prospect the Orioles thought they were getting when they acquired him. Eyanson has made four starts with Double-A Chesapeake.

The first was a five-inning, two-run performance where he struck out nine and walked one. The second wasa bit rough: 5 1/3 innings, two runs, seven strikeouts, four walks. But his next two were dominant. The 6'2'' righty went seven innings, allowed one run, no walks and struck out eight on Aug. 20 and then struck out eight over 3 2/3 innings on Aug. 27. The outing was abbreviated because of an elevated pitch count (85).

All in all, he has a 2.14 ERA and 1.14 WHIP across his first four starts in the Orioles organization. He's rolling toward a Triple-A debut.

Kyson Witherspoon

After struggling during in his time in Boston, Witherspoon is showing why the Red Sox took him in the first round even since he joined the Orioles. Three starts into his Orioles tenure, the University of Oklahoma alum has dominant with High-A Fredrick. The righty's first start was unsteady; he went four 1/3, didn't allow an earned run, but walked five and only struck out three. Starts two an three have been much better.

In second start, he went five innings, allowed two runs, only walked two, and struck out nine. He built on that in third start, where he threw five innings of no-hit ball, walked three, and struck out eight. Withspoon's stock took a hit after his struggles in Boston to the point where he isn't in MLB Pipeline's top 10 Orioles prospects, but he'll get in there quickly if he continues to perform like this.

Enddy Azocar

The 19-year-old outfielder has been red hot since joining the Orioles organization. In 19 games at High-A, he owns a .346 average, .603 slugging percentage, and .991 OPS. Of his 27 hits, 12 have been for extra-bases and he's driven in 18 runs. At this rate, Azocar might see time in Double-A before the end of the season, and it wouldn't be shocking to see him get top-100 love.
