3 Orioles players that you may have forgotten were on the 2025 Opening Day roster

Oh yeah, these guys did play in Baltimore last year.

For the most part, the players that the Baltimore Orioles carried on their Opening Day roster last year were familiar faces. Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, and Jackson Holliday were not exactly earth-shattering choices to start the season with. However, some of their other choices at the start of the season were a bit more...questionable.

Opening Day rosters are funny, as they are given outsized importance in the minds of many. However, injuries, service time, and minor league options very often determine who starts the season in the majors, and those choices have little to do with merit. That can, at times, lead to bizarre and forgettable results.

Here are the Orioles players fans probably forgot (or wish they could forget) were on the 2025 Opening Day roster

The list of players that played for the Orioles at all in 2025 that fans probably forgot about is a very different list and would feature a motley crew of players that fans couldn't pick out of a lineup. With spring training underway, the focus is on the Opening Day roster and some of the names on it that Orioles fans blocked from their memories for one reason or another.

Gary Sanchez

Baltimore's catching situation got turned upside-down in a hurry in 2025. Adley Rutschman was the incumbent and obvious favorite to get the bulk of the playing time, but Gary Sanchez started the season as the backup. Unfortunately, Rutschman was on and off the injured list with oblique issues, and Sanchez went down with a knee sprain and only played in 29 games for Baltimore, who instead had to usher in the Maverick Handley and Chadwick Tromp era, which was not fun for anyone.

Charlie Morton

This is more in the "fans wish they could forget" category, as Morton was pretty much the only move of note the Orioles made to address their rotation last year. That proved to be problematic as Morton was only able to manage a 5.42 ERA across 23 appearances (including 17 starts) before Baltimore shipped him to the Tigers, where he eventually made the final appearance of his career (probably) with the Braves.

Albert Suarez

Albert Suarez is funny because, at this point, it feels like he has been around forever, but he has only actually been around for two seasons. 2024 was a breakout year for Suarez, and he did start the season on the active roster in 2025, but shoulder issues cost him most of last season, and elbow discomfort ended Suarez's season not long after his return. Baltimore did bring him back this past offseason, but it is anyone's guess as to how much he is actually going to play for the Orioles in 2026.
