As we wait for the Baltimore Orioles to return to the field, let’s catch up on the health of our favorite right fielder and the status of the virtual MLB players’ tournament.

A little over a month after the surgery, the Baltimore Orioles Trey Mancini appears to be on the mend.

Checking in on the Fan Favorite Right Fielder:

According to The Baltimore Sun, Mike Elias said that Mancini still had a long way to go before he makes his way onto a baseball field. The timeline for recovery is progressing as it should and Elias told reporters: “But, it is going to take some time. He’s going to be out for months rather than weeks.”

If the MLB restarts before Mancini is ready to play, there are several players who could temporarily fill his shoes. It could open an opportunity for Yusniel Diaz to get regular MLB playing time. Ryan Mountcastle or Dwight Smith Jr. could also split time in right field, too. Mancini’s 2019 slash of .291/.364/.535 and 35 home runs will be difficult to replace.

Checking in on the MLB: The Show Players’ Tournament

While baseball games played by humans probably won’t be happening for some time, MLB fans can still get their fill of virtual baseball. The MLB: The Show players’ tournament is in full swing. The Orioles representative, Dwight Smith, is doing well against his AL East counterparts.

According to the latest stats, Smith has played four games, and has a record of 3-1. His only loss is to Tampa Bay Rays Blake Snell. His three wins are against Tommy Kahnle of the Yankees, Cole Tucker of the Pirates, and Hunter Pence of the Giants.

On Thursday night at 9:00 ET, he faces off against four more MLB players: Juan Soto, Matt Carpenter, Trevor May of the Twins, and Luke Jackson of the Braves. You can follow along on Smith’s Twitch accountJoey Gallo is the only undefeated player in the tournament.

In the April 13 virtual game against the Yankees, Hunter Harvey earned the win and Gerrit Cole was credited with the loss. Chris Davis and Anthony Santander each hit home runs. Davis’s traveled 433 feet at 107 MPH. It was a satisfying win for the Orioles, and especially for Smith, who had a walk in the game.
