Orioles star Gunnar Henderson's sneaky home run fools everyone vs. Nationals
Gunnar Henderson hit a home run that surprised everyone.
The Baltimore Orioles have been a fun team to watch all season. They are full of talent and have made spectacular plays seem like a normal occurrence. But tonight there was a play that surprised everyone.
Allow me to set the scene. It's the top of the sixth inning in Nationals Park. The score is tied 1-1 as Gunnar Henderson steps to the plate to lead off the inning. At an opportune time, Henderson took an 0-1 slider from Nationals lefty Mitchell Parker and put a mighty swing on it.
It looked as if Henderson hit the ball well enough and Ben McDonald immediately said, "Uh oh, I thought he got that one. Boy, he just missed it." At that time, McDonald was reacting to the positioning of Nationals right fielder Eddie Rosario, who looked to be setting himself up under the ball to make a routine catch in right field. Even the cameraman was focused on Rosario.

Then suddenly, at the top of the screen for those watching at home, the ball came into view and landed in the front row of the stands in right for a home run. The person who was probably most surprised was Rosario, who, upon watching the replay, never seemed to locate the ball. Even the fan in the stands was shocked as the ball landed on the ground next to him.
Melanie Newman put it best when she said, "What a sneaky shot. Gunnar Henderson fools absolutely everyone." What at first looked to be a home run, then was thought to be an easy fly out, ended up being a surprising home run that gave the Orioles a 2-1 lead. Baseball is a crazy game and you never really know what is going to happen.
