And the O's lead the AL East!

The Chicago White Sox are quite literally the worst team the sport of baseball has ever seen and the Baltimore Orioles, who know what it's like to be at the bottom of the league as recently as 2021, are rubbing it in for the world to see.

On Tuesday night, the O's took home a 9-0 victory over the White Sox and watched the New York Yankees lose in walk-off fashion to re-gain the AL East lead. But to weakly summarize what happened in the Baltimore-Chicago game like that would be a disservice to fans.

In the bottom of the second inning with the Orioles leading 4-0, former White Sox outfielder Eloy Jimenez stood in the batter's box with the bases loaded and two outs. For a moment there, it looked like he popped out to end the inning. Bummer, but a four-run cushion against these White Sox still felt sufficient.

Except ... did we forget about Chicago's defense?! The worst team in the history of the game can't be fundamentally sound on that side of the ball, right? Right!

Jimenez's pop up into left field saw three White Sox players converge on the ball. One of them got out of the way knowing what was about to happen, and then Miguel Vargas collided with left fielder Andrew Benintendi in what was an ugly scene. All three runs scored to make it a 7-0 game, and the Orioles' social media team had a good laugh.

White Sox's comedy of errors creates funny Orioles social media moment

Orioles legend Eloy Jimenez. That's it. A pop-up for the ages that will perhaps top the lowlight reel for the straight-to-DVD movie of the White Sox's ghastly 2024 season. Add in broadcaster Kevin Brown saying "the White Sox have just gone full White Sox," and that's a deadly 1-2 combo.

Most baseball fans are out of words to describe what Chicago is doing. Even on this play, we're unsure how a veteran of Benintendi's stature doesn't do a better job of calling off youngster Miguel Vargas. We have no idea how three players made it out to the middle of left field on what seemed to be a relatively routine play.

Vargas, who was down on the field after the collision, ended up staying in the game but suffered what looked to be a nasty black eye.

When you realize all of the factors here: the White Sox's current stretch, the force of the collision for Vargas, the reaction from the broadcasts ... it's even more savage that the Orioles' Twitter account went the extra mile to get another laugh out of it.

If any O's fans out there are feeling bad for the White Sox, then here's a clip of Clay Holmes surrendering a walk-off grand slam in the Yankees' loss to give you a more justifiable target to jeer at.
