Diamondbacks just broke a remarkable Orioles streak that dated back to 2007

Another streak the Orioles were maintaining came to an end on Mother's Day.

With the Baltimore Orioles having already won the series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, they were looking for a sweep on Mother's Day. Having won Game 1 by a 4-2 score and Game 2 5-4 in extra innings, they had easily avoided busting their multi-year "no sweep" streak, and were looking to extend another you might not have known about.

Unfortunately, the Orioles couldn't get it done. They fell to the D-Backs 9-2 in a game that wasn't close, missing out on the sweep and the chance to extend their winning ways against the Arizona at Camden Yards in a game that was also impacted by rain.

The win for the D-Backs marks their first at Camden Yards since June 17, 2007, according to Arizona Sports. Maybe the one positive from this game is that the Orioles didn't have to worry about using Craig Kimbrel amid his concerning run as of late.

Orioles' impressive streak against the D-Backs comes to an end on rainy Mother's Day

Let's flash back to that day in 2007. The Orioles had a starting lineup of Brian Roberts, Melvin Mora, Nick Markakis, Miguel Tejada, Aubrey Huff, Jay Gibbons, Corey Patterson, Freddy Bynum, and Alberto Castillo (yes, the 37-year-old catcher), with Jay Payton and Kevin Millar coming off the bench in the game. Brian Burres, Chad Bradford, Jamie Walker, and Chris Ray pitched in what was a 6-4 win for the D-Backs, which saw Arizona secure a series sweep (en route to an October appearance that year).

Ok, back to May 12, 2024. Dean Kremer, a name to watch in the Orioles starting rotation battle, took the mound in this one. On the heels of a couple good starts, Kremer didn't quite have it this time, as he allowed six runs on four hits and four walks despite striking out 10 hitters.

After Kremer departed, Cionel Pérez was responsible for three runs while getting just one out, finishing the sixth inning. Albert Suárez came in after that and pitched three shutout innings, continuing the career renaissance he is experiencing this season.

While the streak of home success against the D-Backs has reached its end, the Orioles have another series win in their grasp as they now hold a 26-13 record, still just a half-game ahead of the New York Yankees for first place in the AL East.
