Baltimore Orioles probable pitchers & starting lineups vs Tampa Bay Rays, September 6
The Orioles have to take advantage of this series against the weakened Rays
Coming off an absolutely dismal effort against the White Sox on Wednesday night, the Orioles find themselves 0.5 games up on the Yankees in the AL East with a stretch of games against the Rays and Red Sox that must be taken advantage of.
The Rays are coming off a 12-15 August and have started slow in September. At 6.5 games back in the Wild Card race, their season is all but over. The Orioles have the chance to put what should be the final nail in that coffin with a series victory over the Rays in Baltimore.
Probable starting pitchers
- The Orioles will send Dean Kremer to the mound on Friday night. The righty has pitched to a 4.51 ERA with a 21.6% strikeout rate in 2024. Kremer pitched well against the Mets and Nationals in early August but was hit hard by both the Astros and Rockies in his two most recent starts. The Rays do struggle against righties and have the 5th highest strikeout percentage among all MLB teams though, so Kremer might be able to get into a rhythm early.
- The Rays will counter with righty Shane Baz, who has posted a 3.49 ERA in 49 innings since returning from Tommy John surgery earlier this year. Baz can tend to be a bit wild but the Orioles have a below average walk rate on the year, so we'll have to see if they can take advantage of the young righty and work themselves into some deep counts.
