The Baltimore Orioles were hoping to turn the page this weekend following a frustrating series loss to the Washington Nationals. However, before they could even get started against the Detroit Tigers, complications have emerged — courtesy of the weather, something the O’s have become all too familiar with.

Friday night’s series opener at Comerica Park has been officially postponed due to rain. Instead, the Orioles and Tigers will kick off the weekend with a traditional doubleheader on Saturday, April 26. Game one is now scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET, with game two following later in the evening at 6:10 p.m. ET.

Fans holding tickets for Friday’s postponed game will have them honored for game two of Saturday's doubleheader, per a statement released by the Tigers organization.

Weather delay shuffles pitching matchups for Orioles vs Tigers series

The postponement also forces a shakeup in the expected pitching matchups. Rookie right-hander Brandon Young, who was slated to make his second major league start for Baltimore on Friday night, is now expected to be pushed back to one of Saturday’s games. Originally, Young was lined up to face Detroit’s Casey Mize, but now it appears the Tigers will send Mize to the mound in the first game facing off against veteran right-hander Charlie Morton for the Orioles.

As for the second game, both teams have yet to officially announce starters, but it’s shaping up to be a potential clash of young talent. Baltimore is expected to give the ball to Brandon Young, while Detroit could counter with their highly-touted rookie Jackson Jobe. If that matchup materializes, it would set the stage for an exciting glimpse at two of the more promising young arms in baseball. The series finale on Sunday is still expected to feature Dean Kremer taking the mound for Baltimore opposite Tigers ace Tarik Skubal.

The Tigers enter the series riding a wave of early-season momentum. At 15–10, Detroit sits atop the American League Central and has been turning heads playing confident, well-rounded baseball. Meanwhile, the Orioles are looking to find their footing. After a sluggish start filled with injuries and inconsistent performances, Baltimore sits at 10–14 in the bottom of the AL East standings.

The Orioles badly need a spark to ignite their season — and despite the delay, this weekend still offers a crucial opportunity. However, facing a surging Tigers club won’t be easy. Saturday’s doubleheader now carries even higher stakes for Baltimore as they look to reverse their early-season slide and get back on track.
