Per FanSided's Robert Murray, the Baltimore Orioles have signed former Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jordyn Adams to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training.
A former first-round pick of the Angels out of the North Carolina high school ranks in 2018, Adams was a former Top 100 overall prospect from 2019-2021 according to Baseball Prospectus. He ranked as high as third in the Angels system in 2020 and 2021, most recently ranking just behind outfielder Brandon Marsh and LHP Reid Detmers in MLB Pipeline's 2021 prospect rankings.
The six-foot, right-handed hitting outfielder has played just 18 games in the majors leagues up to this point, appearing in 11 games with the Angels during the 2024 season. During that span, Adams was 8-35 (.229 average), with one home run, four RBI, three walks, and two stolen bases. He was designated for assignment back in November and elected free agency after he went unclaimed.
Bringing Adams in is a solid depth move for the Orioles. The invite to spring training means there's also competition now for outfielder Daz Cameron, who the Orioles recently traded cash considerations for to reunite with. Adams and Cameron both bring similar skill sets to the organization and will figure to battle it out in spring for a major league job as a depth outfielder.
Should Daz Cameron not make the major league roster out of spring camp, it will probably be much harder to keep him in the organization and send him down to Triple-A. However, with Adams signing a minor league deal, the Orioles will have an easier time of stashing him away in Triple-A as depth, as long as he impresses in spring training.
Adams has spent the majority of the last two seasons playing in Salt Lake City with the Angels' Triple-A affiliate, hitting .261 last season with a .338 on-base percentage, 10 home runs, 22 doubles, 4 triples, and 28 stolen bases, one year after swiping 44 bags with Salt Lake in 2023.
Primarily playing center field, Adams can play all three outfield spots. Once considered one of the fastest players in the minor leagues, Adams now brings his speed and defensive versatility to Baltimore where he can be a solid depth outfield piece who plays good defense, can be a menace on the basepaths, and also handle left-handed pitching fairly well. Adams hit .280 with an .835 OPS against lefties in the minors last season.
With outfielder Daniel Johnson entering free agency this offseason, Jordyn Adams is the perfect replacement for him to stash down in Norfolk. He will likely join an impressive group of outfield prospects roaming around the outfield of Harbor Park to start 2025, including Jud Fabian and Dylan Beavers.
