Fans of the Baltimore Orioles will always love Trey Mancini. Mancini was already a fan favorite for being a light in the darkness during a difficult stretch of Orioles history from 2017-2019, but when Mancini was diagnosed with cancer ahead of the 2020 season, the Orioles rallied around him, and when he beat cancer and returned to play in 2021, he garnered immense respect from fans and players around the league. The love Mancini received from Orioles fans wasn't just because he was a good baseball player who survived cancer; it was because of everything he did off the field. He was very close with late Orioles superfan Mo Gaba, and his Trey Mancini Foundation does incredible work with cancer patients and children in the Baltimore area.
Orioles players and fans alike were pained to see him traded at the 2022 trade deadline. The Cubs signed him the next season but cut him after he put up -1.1 WAR over 79 games, and ever since, he's been bouncing around in the minors. After three seasons without a call-up, it seemed like maybe Orioles fans had seen the last of Trey Mancini in the big leagues without even knowing it. It just didn't seem like a fair or appropriate ending. So when it was announced that the Angels were calling up Mancini, the reaction amongst Orioles fans online was as if they were going to get to see a beloved long-lost relative for the first time in years.

As he did many times during his career as an Oriole, Mancini rose to the occasion. He went 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored. It felt like a movie. Many Orioles fans were tuned in and were celebrating every hit like it was the World Series.
The big question now is, can Mancini stick around on the Angels long enough to play one more series at Camden Yards? Mancini returned to Camden Yards with the Astros a few months after being traded, so it's not like the Orioles fans never got a chance to see him again post-trade, but they could not have known that would be the last time they'd see him. A return to Baltimore in 2026 would result in a massive standing ovation.
The Angels don't come to Baltimore until August, so Mancini would have to stick around for two months. It's a lot to ask as baseball can be a cruel game, and if Mancini goes on a cold streak in the next two months, it wouldn't be surprising for him to be sent down/DFA'd. On the bright side, that matchup would be post trade deadline, so if the Angels sell at the deadline, that could open up some more playing time for Mancini just in time to see the Orioles.
