The calendar has flipped to February and teams will report to their respective spring training sites in a matter of weeks. But there are still a number of talented free agents on the open market — not the least of which is the Baltimore Orioles top target, Framber Valdez.

To date, the O's and Valdez's camp have yet to hammer out a deal despite the fact that almost every MLB pundit believes Baltimore is his top choice. But while the Orioles remain in the hunt for the former Astros ace, they can't ignore other aspects of their roster.

Several mid-to-lower level free agents would help Baltimore fill out its roster before heading to Sarasota later this month. Some of those those players are former Orioles, one of which could find his way back home.

3 former Orioles players who are still languishing on the free agent market

Alex Cobb, former Orioles starting pitcher

Alex Cobb came up through the Tampa Bay Rays farm system, and agreed to a four-year, $57 million deal with the Orioles ahead of the 2018 season. Cobb's time in Baltimore was wildly disappointing and he was traded to the Angels in 2021. The Detroit Tigers signed him to a one-year, $15 million deal last winter, but he spent the entire 2025 season on the IL with a hip injury.

Tomoyuki Sugano, former Orioles starting pitcher

The O's were hopeful that Tomoyuki Sugano would solve their pitching woes last season, but the results were underwhelming. The right-hander went 10-10 with a 4.64 ERA, though he started 30 games. Sugano kept the bases tidy with a 5.3% walk-rate, but his 15.7% strikeout-rate was among the worst in all of MLB.

Adam Frazier, former Orioles infielder

Adam Frazier's best years were with the Pittsburgh Pirates, but he signed a one-year, $8 million contract with the Orioles ahead of the 2022 season. He racked up 13 home runs that season and became a free agent the following winter. Since then, Frazier spent a year back in Pittsburgh sandwiched around two separate stints with the Kansas City Royals.

Ramon Urias, former Orioles infielder

Ramon Urias was a trade deadline casualty last summer after the Orioles' lost season. Urias was dealt to the Houston Astros in exchange for right-handed pitcher Twine Palmer and struggled post-trade. Urias was designated for assignment last November and remains on the open market. Don't be shocked if the O's look to re-sign Urias before spring camp in order to add some depth to the infield.
