Friday’s Baltimore Orioles game was all about the double, and Saturday’s game was all about the home run.

Three Baltimore Orioles home runs in the 8th inning, to be exact.

And with those three timely late-inning home runs, the Orioles got another win against the World Series champs down the road.

It’s a good thing that the three batters came through in the 8th, because Jose Iglesias had a rare oh-fer night, and several other O’s batters followed suit.

The first home run of the night belonged to Pat Valaika who pinch hit for Chance Sisco.  Then, hitting a back-to-back jack on the first pitch, Pedro Severino got in on the action as he pinch hit for Dwight Smith, Jr. After that drama, Sean Doolittle struck out Chris Davis – remember in 2020 relievers have to see three batters before they can be replaced.

The Nats replaced Doolittle with Daniel Hudson, who didn’t do much better. He walked Austin Hays and gave up a single to Hanser Alberto. That set the stage for Anthony Santander who hit a no-doubter to left field (hitting a fan cutout) scoring Hays and Alberto. Enjoy all three home runs thanks to MLB.com.

Prior to the 8th inning, the Nats held the O’s scoreless. But that one inning was all the Birds needed to get the win. Miguel Castro was able to close out the game and the Birds got back to .500 and second place in the AL East.

The Nationals dropped to 4-7 and last in the NL East – because baseball is completely backwards in 2020.

The Orioles got a good outing from Thomas Eshelman who pitched four innings giving up five hits and two runs. He struck out two batters. Honestly, the Orioles couldn’t have asked for a better outing from him.  By the end of the night, the Orioles struck out 11 Nats. Tanner Scott gave up the third Nationals run. Cole Sulser struggled a bit in the bottom of the eighth, walking two batters before getting the final two outs of the inning.

With that win, the Orioles officially won the series against the Nationals. The two teams finish the series on Sunday afternoon with a 12:35 ET start time. Asher Wojciechowski faces Stephen Strasburg. The O’s did well against Stras in their exhibition game back in July.
