Baltimore Orioles: An Up and Down History Involving Trades With The NL Central
By Nick Stevens

There hasn’t been a lot of excitement between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Baltimore Orioles.
We will make this one quick, since there hasn’t been much in terms of notable deals between these two franchises. A total of 13 deals have been made, but all of them have involved aging veterans (Derek Lee) or minor league players.
But, we have to discuss one trade, so let’s look at this 2015 trade.
- To Baltimore: OF Travis Snider
- To Pittsburgh: LHP Stephen Tarpley, LHP Steven Brault
Snider spent his career as a reserve outfielder and managed just 69 games with the Orioles, hitting .237 with three home runs. Tarpley is trying to break through as a reliever for the New York Yankees, while Brault has made 89 appearances (35 starts) with the Pirates, going 11-12 with a 4.88 ERA. Walks have been a major issue in his four MLB seasons, owning a current walk rate of 4.6/9 IP.
Looking at the 2020 Orioles, both Tarpley and Brault could have been valuable bullpen pieces in Baltimore.
That’s about it for these two teams. Unless you are a big fan of the 1987 trade of Terry Crowley for outfielder Joe Orsulak. To be fair, Orsulak was worth 8.0 bWAR in his five seasons with the Orioles, while Crowley never reached Triple-A.
