This time the Baltimore Orioles found themselves on the right side of baseball history.
Making Major League Baseball history isn’t easy. The MLB was founded in 1869 meaning 150 years of history has been made. Somehow the Baltimore Orioles found a way to make league history not once but twice this week alone.
The first piece of history wasn’t quite one to be proud of. After allowing five home runs to the Padres Wednesday, the Orioles became the first team to allow five or more home runs 10 times in the same season. That record was set during the 80th game of the O’s season which means they’re on pace to have 20 games where they allow five or more home runs. That would double the previous record of nine set by the 2016 Cincinnati Reds.
With a record to be ashamed of set Wednesday, the Orioles set one to be very proud of after their efforts Friday and Saturday against the Indians.
In back to back games the Orioles took down the Indians by a final score of 13-0. By doing so, Baltimore became the first team in MLB history to win back to back games while shutting out the opponent and scoring 13 or more runs.
Yes, the Baltimore Orioles who are on pace to lose 115 games for the second straight season did that to the three-time defending American League Central Champions.
It’s safe to say you never know what you’ll see when watching a baseball game. Baseball truly is the only sport where the worst team in baseball can make history for dominating an opponent.
With the two victories, the Orioles won their first series in over two months and now are in position to sweep a series for the first time since August of 2018 when they swept the Toronto Blue Jays.
