It’s unknown who the Baltimore Orioles will hire to be the new General Manager, but they will need to have full control

Who knows what the future holds for the next General Manager of the Baltimore Orioles, but whoever gets that role will have a lot of work to do. One name that is interesting and he’s now available is Bob Miller.

Miller was the assistant general manager of the Washington Nationals under Mike Rizzo. He helped the Nationals with some great deals, especially bringing Trea Turner to Washington.

He’s learned from one of the best in Mike Rizzo; look at how well the Nationals have done in the last five years. Most people outside of Washington had never heard of Miller, and even Rizzo didn’t want him to leave.

It would be great for the Orioles to at least interview him and see what he can do to make the Orioles a contender again.

Of course he’d have to have the freedom to make the moves without ownership in the way.

Successful teams can’t have owners continually impeding the progress of an organization or stopping deals from potentially happening. That is the downfall of a relationship within the front office.

Bob Miller has my vote for the next GM of the Orioles, but as a fan, I have no say in who the Angelos’ will be interviewing and hiring.

My guess is that the Orioles hire someone that isn’t well known around baseball and someone that has been in the front office of another team.

Let’s just hope they don’t make the mistakes in the past by hiring a pair of general managers like they did in 2005 with Jim Beattie and Mike Flanagan to run the team.  That was a failure from the beginning and it had a sad ending.

Next. The O's have a few arbitration decisions to make. dark

Hopefully this new general manager and future manager will be settled in before Thanksgiving.
