Baltimore Orioles: Up next, the Orioles rebuild for the 2019 Season
You can finally feel the sense of relief in the city of Baltimore, now that the Baltimore Orioles 2018 season is over and we can finally get to the important off-season moves
It’s not often you hear the words: Baltimore Orioles and first pick in the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft, but it’s a reality now. As much as it’s painful to hear, it’s necessary in order for the organization to become a contender once again.
Orioles manager Buck Showalter brought hope and excitement that hadn’t happened in Baltimore since the Cal Ripken, Rafael Palmeiro, Mike Mussina days. It looks like the Showalter era in Baltimore is over and it’s time to move on and get younger.
The last few World Series Champions had the worst record in baseball and restocked the farm system with top draft picks and that bodes well for the Orioles. It might take a little longer, but that’s what it will take to possibly bring a championship back to Baltimore and that hasn’t happened since 1983.

The Orioles still have some players on the roster to build around so it shouldn’t be a complete overhaul of the 40-man roster. You’ve got Trey Mancini, Cedric Mullins, Dylan Bundy all coming back in 2019 and hopefully a better Bundy. He struggled a lot in 2018.
It’s going to be interesting to see who will make the team out of Spring Training and see how they progress throughout a long 162 game schedule. It’s also going to be interesting to see who the Orioles draft with the #1 pick in the 2019 Draft.
I’ve read that the top prospect is a shortstop but Baltimore drafted a shortshop in the 2018 Draft named Cadyn Grenier out of Oregon State; I’m not sure why they would go for another shortstop.
Either way, it might be a frustrating next couple of seasons, but in the end it will be worth it when the Baltimore Orioles are once again World Series Champions.
