The Baltimore Orioles finished the 2017 season in last place in the American League East, but they didn’t land there without a fight.

In fact, the Baltimore Orioles put up some rather impressive numbers in the 2017 season.

Let’s take a look back at 17 of those before the calendar switches to 2018.

  • Manny Machado hit three grand slams in the month of August.
  • Chance Sisco and Austin Hays hit their first home runs in September.
  • Tim Beckham arrived in Baltimore and went on a 12-game hitting streak. In August he only had two hitless games and 15 multi-hit games.
  • Beckham finished 2017 with a .306 batting average with the Orioles. His prior season-high average was .247.

  • Welington Castillo had his first 20-home-run season.
  • Jonathan Schoop and Trey Mancini finished the season with a batting average of .293.
  • Even though Mark Trumbo did not have a very good season, but he still hit 23 home runs. (Unfortunately, it was less than half of what he hit in 2016).
  • Buck Showalter earned his 1500th win on Tuesday, September 5 against the New York Yankees. And, as a walk-off, the win was especially sweet.
  • Jonathan Schoop had 105 RBIs. He led the team. Machado was the closest behind him with 95.

  • Chris Davis and Khris Davis both had 195 strikeouts. How often does THAT happen?
  • Despite finishing last in the AL East, the Orioles had the fifth most home runs in the AL (232). The pitching staff also gave up the second most home runs (242).
