Baltimore Orioles: Defeat the Mariners and move above the .500 mark

In what is now a five-game winning streak, the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Seattle Mariners by a score of 7-6.
This win puts the Baltimore Orioles above the .500 mark for the first time since June 11.
The team has flirted with a percentage above .500, but they haven’t been able to cross the line.
Closing in on the second Wild Card spot
This win against the Mariners not only pushed them into the small group of teams with winning records, but it also pushed them a game closer to the second Wild Card spot. The Orioles are currently 1.5 games behind the Minnesota Twins. The Los Angeles Angels are tied with the Orioles. The Twins have the night off and the Angels are playing the Oakland A’s.
Everyone earned a hit
This win was a hard-fought battle for the Orioles and they did have opportunities to blow the game wide open. In fact, in the fourth inning, Manny Machado had an opportunity to hit his fourth Grand Slam of the month. Instead, he lined out on a hard hit ball to the Jean Segura at shortstop.

The Orioles did have plenty of offense in the game, but the Mariners seemed to be expecting it. The O’s never had a really big inning of runs, but they managed to stretch out the runs through five innings. Everyone earned at least one hit in the game and a few players had extra-base hits. Manny Machado hit his 29th double of the season in the third inning and Jonathan Schoop plated him on a strategic single to right field. Unfortunately, Schoop was thrown out at second base.
Speaking of Machado, he went three for five today. Unfortunately, he only scored the one run on the Schoop RBI. Another one of the 25-year-olds had a notable day. Trey Mancini went three for four and scored two runs. Chris Davis also hit a double, scored two runs, and earned an RBI. Not to be outdone by the men who hit ahead of him, Mark Trumbo also crossed home plate in the game.
Notable day for Adam Jones
Adam Jones also had a good day. He was the only Orioles player to hit a home run. He also crossed home plate twice, once after he was walked in the second and was plated by a Welington Castillo single that earned two RBIs for the hot-hitting catcher.
This was Jones’ 25th home run of the season and his 250th of his career. Hopefully, someone got the ball for Jones to add to his collection.
Tillman on the mound
The most shocking thing about the win against the Mariners is that it happened with Chris Tillman on the mound. He did not get the win on the day; that was given to Donnie Hart. But, Tillman did end the day with 5.1 innings pitched and a line of three hits, six runs, four walks, and one strike out. The walks continue to hurt Tillman, but the team provided enough run support for the entire pitching staff that they did not matter in the long run.
Tillman did outlast the Mariner’s pitcher, Marco Gonzales, who has had difficulty making it out of the early innings.
This game was loaded with plenty of positives for the Orioles. Zach Britton was able to get back into the game after he struggled with knee issues. He earned his 12th save of the season. Darren O’Day earned his 14th hold of the season.
