The Baltimore Orioles fell 5-3 in LHP Wade Miley’s Baltimore debut.
Wade Miley made his Baltimore Orioles’ debut last night, and was probably hoping for better results. With that said one could probably argue tht Miley achieved “mixed results,” but the fact is that the O’s lost and he was the losing pitcher. However I would say that he certainly wasn’t horrible, and he showed some signs of why the Orioles traded for him. Miley’s line: 5.0 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 5 K.
The biggest concern for Miley may be that he was hit on the heel by a comebacker to end the fifth inning. He very gingerly walked off the field, and was seen going down the tunnel with head athletic trainer Richie Bancells. However the Orioles don’t expect him to miss any time, and he’s expected to make his next start.
MIley and the Orioles were almost bled to death in this game. Lucroy’s solo homer in the second and Desmond’s RBI-ground out gave Texas a 2-0 lead. Desmond would hit a soft RBI-single to right in the fifth as well, giving Texas a 3-0 lead. Again, bled to death; shades of the 2014 ALCS.

Call to the Pen
The lead would run to 4-0 later in the inning when Schoop misplayed a soft pop up by Beltran. However the O’s battled back in this game. Mark Trumbo‘s solo homer in the last of the fifth got them on the board and cut the Texas lead to 4-1. That brought Pedro Alvarez to the plate, and he figured that he might as well join the homer parade with a solo shot of his own. The back-to-back home runs cut the Texas lead to 4-2.
And what the heck; one inning later Hyun-Soo Kim figured that he had never homered at Camden Yards – and it was time. He smacked a third solo shot, cutting the Texas lead to one at 4-3. However Texas added an insurance run on Odor’s RBi-double in the eighth, and never looked back. The O’s fell 5-3 in the series finale with Texas.

Again, not horrible results from Miley’s perspective. Texas wasn’t scoring runs in bunches by any means – just one here and one there. Eventually Oriole bats swung into motion and they came back to make a game of it. Obviously he would have liked to have not given up those runs, but it’s part of the game.
The O’s, who seemingly struggle on the road, will now head out on a ten-game road trip that technically spans three cities. Next week they’ll play four in Oakland and three in San Francisco. They’ll stay in the same hotel the entire time, so there’s that. But for a team that has it’s struggles on the road, it will be a challenging and possibly a season-defining week.

And the road trip starts tonight on the south side of Chicago – the baddest part of town. Yovani Gallardo will get the start for the O’s, and he’ll be opposed by old friend and former Oriole MIguel Gonzalez. Game time is set for just after 8 PM.
