Nolan Reimold’s three-run homer sent the Baltimore Orioles onto victory against Chicago.

The Baltimore Orioles found themselves in another close game last night, but this time it was a different face who played the hero: Nolan Reimold. More on him later, however. The O’s can’t seem to win with weather for home games, as this one was played in a cold, wet drizzle for most of the duration of the game.

But the Birds proved to be a better team, behind starter Mike Wright. Wright’s line: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 6 K. Wright pitched very well, and for the most part held himself together in a fine manner. Needless to say, he left with the lead and thus put the O’s in a position to win.

Wright however gave up an RBI-triple in the second, and the Orioles trailed early 1-0. But the O’s loaded the bases in the last of the fifth, and Jonathan Schoop’s RBI-single gave them the lead at 2-1. Later in the inning Rickard hit into what appeared to be a inning-ending double-play. However the Chicago infield air mailed the ball, allowing another run to score and the Orioles led 3-1.

However Chicago fought back in the top of the sixth. They got an RBI-single from Abreu, and a solo homer from Lawrie to tie the game. With Wright appearing to be on the ropes a bit, the O’s needed a big play on defense to get out of the inning. And they got it; Cabrera lined out to Jones with one out in the inning, and Jones gunned a perfect strike to Wieters at home plate to nail the runner and preserve the lead.

One inning later, the O’s got the lead back for good. Reimold strode to the plate with two runners on base. While not a great bunter, there was always a shot he’d lay one down to move both runners into scoring position. However instead Reimold decided to swing away, and sent one towards the short porch in right field, deep into the Baltimore night…

…and he basially won the game with that three-run homer. While the ball barely got out of the yard, it cleared the fence and got out, giving the O’s a 6-3 lead. The bullpen took it from there, and the O’s had suddenly taken the first two of four between these two teams.

Reimold’s hitting .355 on the year, which is kind of a paradox in a way. On one hand he doesn’t get consistent at-bats, which inflates his average a bit. However it’s also amazaing that he’s able to be as successful as he is while not getting consistent at-bats.

The series continues tonight, as the teams will play game three of four. Kevin Gausman will start for the O’s, and he’ll be opposed by Chicago’s Matt Laos. Game time is set for just after 7 PM.
