The Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies played a low-scoring series opener, but can the offenses get going on Tuesday?
Baltimore has emerged as the best team in the American League and will look to stay hot with a win against a Phillies team that is jockeying for Wild Card positioning. The Orioles are going to need a shut down outing from starter Kyle Gibson against a Phillies lineup that has power littered all over the lineup.
However, Baltimore will face struggling right hander Taijuan Walker, will this be an offensive showcase?
Here are the odds and our best bet:
Orioles vs. Phillies odds, run line and total
Orioles vs. Phillies prediction and pick
Neither pitcher is trustworthy against the opposing lineup and I'm going over on Tuesday night.
- Walker has pitched to a 4.12 ERA over his last four starts, but has seen his strikeout rate plummet. He is punching out about two batters for every walk this season. Further, he got knocked around in his last start, allowing four earned runs in six innings, including six hits against a poor Brewers lineup.
- However, Gibson has allowed the most hits in baseball this season, 124, and is not a power pitcher that generates swings and misses, striking out only seven batters per nine innings.
- The Phillies strikeout a ton, eighth highest K% in the big leagues, but Gibson allows far too much contact which can play to Philly's strength, 11th in slugging percentage.
With two struggling starters and two offenses that can rake, let's go over.
