Orioles vs. Diamondbacks prediction and odds for Friday, Sept. 1 (Back Cole Irvin)

The Orioles have a 1.5 game lead over the Rays in the AL East and with 83 wins have already locked up a winning record.

If the Arizona Diamondbacks want to hang around in the National League playoff race, then getting swept by the Dodgers is not the way to do it.

The schedule doesn’t let up for the Diamondbacks either as they now welcome the 83-50 Baltimore Orioles to town for a three-game weekend set. The Orioles are leading the AL East and this week they took two of three from the Chicago White Sox.

The 69-65 Diamondbacks will go with Zach Davies tonight against Cole Irvin. Davies is 1-5 with a 6.93 ERA in 13 starts and Irvin is 1-3 with a 4.78 ERA in 19 appearances.

Now, let’s get into the odds for the Orioles and Diamondbacks in the desert tonight.

Orioles vs. Diamondbacks odds, run line and total

Orioles vs. Diamondbacks prediction and pick

The Arizona Diamondbacks have really crashed back down to earth in the second half of the season and that’s not a huge surprise. They were overachieving early, and now their stats are worse pretty much across the board.

That includes their numbers against left-handed pitchers like Cole Irvin today.

Since July 1, Arizona is 26th in team OPS against lefties at .663 and they have an 81 wRC+ which is 27th. Over that time they have only hit 14 homers off lefties. Christian Walker has been solid in that stretch with a .969 OPS and five of those 14 home runs. However, the rest of the team hasn’t given Walker much help.

Cole Irvin wasn’t great last time out against Colorado, another team that struggles against lefties, but he has a 4.29 FIP which is lower than his ERA. He isn’t a pitcher that I would trust in every matchup, but this is the perfect one.

The Orioles are only very slim favorites, because of some of Irvin’s struggles, but I love them to win big tonight. I’m not just taking them as a road favorite, I’m taking them as a road run line favorite.
