Mets vs. Orioles prediction and odds for Saturday, August 5 (O's win big)
Watching the New York Mets this season has been like watching a car crash in slow motion.
It's tough to watch but you can't look away. The only thing we can do as bettors is continue to bet against them and at least make some money on this spiraling franchise.
The Orioles beat them in a big way in Friday's season opener, demolishing them by a final score of 10-3. I expect a similar result today. Let's dive into it.
Mets vs. Orioles odds, run line, and total
Mets vs. Orioles prediction and pick
Is there anything other than "they're playing against the Mets" that I have to say to convince you to bet on the Orioles tonight?
Over the past 14 days, the Mets rank just 23rd in OPS at .689 and 26th in batting average at .230.
Now, with their rotation depleted due to being sellers at the trade deadline, the Mets are once again going to roll with Tylor Megill in a starting roll. He was demoted to AAA after sporting a 5.17 ERA with the Mets through 15 starts, and then performed even worse with Syracuse, racking up an 8.67 ERA through six starts. Yikes.
Kyle Gibson will get the start for the Orioles and while he's had an up-and-down season, there's signs that we could see some positive regression from him in the near future. He has a 4.53 ERA on the season, but a 3.78 FIP (Field Independent Pitching), which tells me he's had some bad luck and bad defending behind him.
Not only do I think the O's win tonight, but I think they win big. I'll back them on the -1.5 run line.
