The Baltimore Orioles have been one of the more impressive teams in the 2023 season, sitting in second place in the AL East through nearly the first two months.

Baltimore has been solid both on the road and at home, but it gets to be at home – and favored – against the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday evening.

Cleveland won the AL Central last season, but the team has undoubtedly taken a step back in 2023, ranking dead last in Major League Baseball in OPS and runs scored.

The Guardians have Cal Quantrill (2-3, 4.75 ERA) on the mound on Tuesday night against Baltimore’s Kyle Gibson (6-3, 3.82 ERA). Gibson has received a decision in nine of his 11 starts, with the O’s going 7-4 in those games.

Let’s dive into the odds and my best bet for Tuesday’s matchup:

Guardians vs. Orioles prediction and pick

Gibson has shut down two of Major League Baseball’s premier offenses in his last two starts, beating the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays.

In those two starts, Gibson has pitched seven innings in each, posting a 0.64 ERA, allowing just seven hits across the 14.0 innings of work.

After allowing six runs in his first start this month, he’s pitched well since, and this matchup is a favorable one to say the least. Cleveland simply doesn’t hit for power, and the team has struggled to score in 2023.

Meanwhile, Quantrill has not been as effective as he was last season, registering a 5.02 Fielding Independent Pitching so far this season. He’s given up at least three runs in seven of his 10 outings in 2023.

The Orioles are a much better offense than the Guardians, so I expect them to get to Quantrill early in this game. Plus Baltimore’s bullpen is No. 2 in MLB, so there shouldn’t be a drop off once Gibson exits.
