The 2023 season for the AA Orioles affiliate didn't pan on standings. They finished with a 67-70 overall record on Eastern League. They almost clinch a playoff berth on second half (36-32), but they had some players who performed better and could appear on the Orioles radar for 2024 and beyond.

Without further ado, let's highlight the best performers in 2023 for Bowie:

Heralded Orioles prospects come through Bowie in 2023

Billy Cook

The 24-year-old was the best player for the Baysox. In 120 games (team leader), he leads them in Home Runs (24) and finished with a 20-30 season for his own. The #27 Orioles prospect per MLB Pipeline finished with a .251/.320/.456 slash line, .776 OPS and 81 RBI. A name to watch not only in the Arizona Fall League but for next spring training and likely Norfolk next year.

Coby Mayo

This guy rakes. Before his well deserved promotion to AAA, he destroyed baseballs with a 1.027 OPS in 78 games (17 HR, 44 RBI, 49 XBH). He's the Eastern League MVP and the next stop is Baltimore next year. Well deserved for Coby Mayo.

John Rhodes

Another outfielder who rakes. He finished in a tie with Mayo in Home Runs (17), but he suffered with strikeouts (123 - second-most). The power was there, and his depth value continues the same. Rhodes could be a breakout candidate in 2024.

Jud Fabian

Promoted during the season, the Florida product showed his power (15 HR - fourth-most in Bowie), but he finished with a .176 batting average (.713 OPS). He will be one to watch next year alongside Dylan Beavers.

Cade Povich

A strikeout machine (118 - team leader) who finished his AA season with a 4.87 ERA in 18 games. He needed to control his pitches, but the stuff and production was there. Povich is one step closer to MLB. He's certainly a name to watch in Spring Training.

Chayce McDermott

The best pitching prospect started in Bowie, and he performed pretty well (3.56 ERA, 68.1 IP, 44 BB, 88 K, .175 BAA). He was promoted to AAA and lived up to his standard. He could be on next Opening Day roster.

For 2024

Bowie will likely have Samuel Basallo in their Opening Day roster. The #5 prospect (#46 overall) will be the next best prospect in 2024. In six games, he finished with a .467/.500/.667 slash line with no home runs (2 XBH) and a 1.167 OPS. Another exciting prospect for the future.
