The Baltimore Orioles announced the 2022 first overall pick, Jackson Holliday, was promoted to the High-A Aberdeen IronBirds Monday on Twitter.
The shortstop played 14 games for the Delmarva Shorebirds in 2023. His .396/.522/.660 slash line with 2 Home Runs, 16 RBI, 3 stolen bases, 14 walks and 13 strikeouts. Holliday reached base safely in every game this season, even though he was hitless in two games. He's advanced to this level and his promotion was a matter of time. With 25 games in Low-A, Holliday had the second fastest promotion to High-A among infielders. Only Jordan Westburg was promoted with fewer games (20).
The best prospect in Orioles' system will come to Aberdeen with a lot of peers from the same draft like Dylan Beavers, Jud Fabian, Max Wagner, Trace Bright and Silas Ardoin. The IronBirds started 5-9 this season and the offense hasn't clicked. A sparky like Holliday will be welcome to manager Roberto Mercado.
Holliday's rising will be beneficial to Orioles and make a case for Baltimore for a third straight year with the top prospect on baseball in their system. Could we see the 19-year-old continue this streak in 2024?
