Baltimore Orioles minor league recap: July 25-30

Norfolk Tides (AAA)

Series vs Nashville Sounds (tied 3-3)
Second half record: 15-11

The offense put on a show: two Home Runs by Heston Kjerstad (1.115 OPS) and 10+ hits by Connor Norby (1.152 OPS) and Joey Ortiz (1.021 OPS). It's a good way to play last week. Alongside them, Chayce McDermott deserved some credit: he was the pitcher of the week (5.0 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 7 K). Ryan Watson played pretty well, too (6.2 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, HR, 4 BB, 7 K in two games). Cade Povich made his AAA debut (2.1 IP, 2 H, 4 ER, HR, 4 BB, 3 K). Don't worry, kid. The best days is ahead of you.

For Jackson Holliday, he'll be on the 7-Day IL with an illness. The offense, even without him, stepped up with bombs by Donta' Williams (2), Billy Cook, Greg Cullen, Jud Fabian and Tim Susnara (one each). Cullen and Susnara finished with OPS over 1.000. The pitching staff had a 10-strikeout week performance by Carlos Tavera and no other pretty numbers against the Patriots. Time to bounce back next week.

Silas Ardoin was promoted to AA. The Texas product finished his High-A career with a .215/.369/.336 slash line, 5 HR, 28 RBI and 31 runs scored. He'll be replaced by Samuel Basallo (more ahead). For the rest of the IronBirds bats, Dylan Beavers had a strong week with a .467 batting average plus two stolen bases. Elio Prado made his A+ debut with a 6-14 performance.

For the pitching staff, kudos to Juan Nunez (4.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K), Jared Beck (4.0 IP, H, ER, BB, 4 K) and Kyle Virbitsky (4.0 IP, 3 BB, 3 K).

Farewell, Samuel Basallo. This kid can hit with power (1.271 OPS). He'll going to Aberdeen for the next step in his development. Stiven Acevedo, Erison Placencia and Trenton Craig had six hits each. For pitching, congratulations to Luis de Leon, the pitcher of the week (6.0 IP, H, 2 BB, 8 K). Kudos for Juan De Los Santos, too (4.0 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 4 K).
