Angels vs. Orioles prediction and odds for Thursday, May 18 (Baltimore has edge)
The Angles and Orioles wrap up a four game series between two teams fighting for American League playoffs positioning.
The O's will send out Tyler Wells on Thursday in hopes of maintaining his fantastic marks this season while the Angels will hope that (fellow) Tyler Anderson can get on track this season after a shaky beginning to the year.
Here are the odds for the series finale with our best bet:
Angels vs. Orioles odds, run line and total
Angels vs. Orioles prediction and pick
This is a tough spot for the left hander Anderson, who has posted a 5.26 ERA while walking 19 batters to striking out 25. He will face an Orioles team that is fifth in the big leagues in OPS against left handed pitchers and have as deep of a lineup as any in the big leagues.
It also helps that the third year right hander Wells is breaking out as a stud in the O's rotation. He has a 2.68 ERA with an American League best .723 WHIP. There is some underlying regression coming for Wells, who has a Fielding Independent Pitching (FIP) of 4.49, which means that he has benefitted from some positive variance in the field, but Wells is being backed by the second best bullpen in baseball this season in terms of ERA.
Wells could take a step back in this start, but he limits walks and generates swings and misses at a better rate than Anderson, who is facing an elite lineup in the Orioles. I need to go with the better team at home at such a short price.
