The Cedric Mullins era has come to an end for the Baltimore Orioles. A free agent after the season, Mullin was expected to be one of several players moved ahead of the deadline. The question was what team would come away with Mullins, as the veteran center fielder had been linked to the New York Mets, Houston Astros, and Philadelphia Phillies in recent weeks. With the Mets landing Harrison Bader already and the Astros likely looking for infield help, the stage was set for the Mets to swoop in and grab Mullins. That is what they did.

Orioles send off fan favorite in deadline deal fans saw coming
It hasn't exactly been the most exciting deadline for Orioles fans. They've moved some relievers prior to the deadline day, and on Wednesday night, they shipped Andrew Kittredge to the Chicago Cubs. The deal didn't exactly match with the timeline that Mike Elias has stated, considering they got a talented lower-level prospect who is still a long way away from being Major League-ready.
That said, the Orioles did well for themselves in dealing Mullins to the Mets, as the team received three prospects from the NL East contender. The prospects were right-handed pitcher Raimon Gomez, right-handed pitcher Anthony Nunez, and right-handed pitcher Chandler Marsh. Gomez is the key prospect in the deal, ranked as the Orioles' No. 30 prospect. Gomez has a fastball that reaches 104 mph and is expected to be ready as soon as next season.
There was a point this season where Mullins was looking like one of the better rental bats available. However, his offense has seen some regression since the calendar flipped to May. With that in mind, credit to Elias for still getting a decent return for the veteran.
The deal ends Mullins' 8-year run with the Orioles. Baltimore has been his only home, and he is suddenly inserted into a postseason push with the Mets. Mullins could be the first of several moves the Orioles make in the final hours before the deadline, with Ryan O'Hearn also expected ot be moved.
