Orioles Rumors: Ryan O’Hearn a popular trade target, Ramon Urias fits, Felix Bautista

The 2025 trade deadline will arrive in a little over a month and the Baltimore Orioles have some tough choices to make. The Orioles have been playing better under Tony Mansolino, but they are also already in a pretty big hole, and conventional wisdom would tell you that Baltimore needs to do some amount of selling at the deadline and try to reset for a run in 2026.

Exactly to what degree they will sell is an open question. Pending free agents will almost certainly be on the trading block, but guys with team control beyond 2025 are going to require a more thorough process. The Orioles, at least in theory, are going to try and contend again next year and beyond.

Notably, there are a few Orioles players that are already starting to pop up in trade rumors ahead of the timeline, and it's hard to deny they're likely to move.

Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn is already a very popular name on the trade market

Given the lack of impact bats that are likely to be available at the trade deadline, it is awfully tempting to trade Ryan O'Hearn at the deadline. O'Hearn will be a free agent after the 2025 season, is only making $3.5 million this season, and he is making a strong case to make the All-Star Game.

So far, it does appear as though O'Hearn is indeed a popular trade target at the moment. As funny as it would be if O'Hearn made the All-Star Game and got traded to a NL club before the game after the Rafael Devers trade opened the door for him to get in in the first place, it looks like the interest is fairly wide, and Baltimore may wait things out to get the best offer possible.

Orioles' Ramon Urias connected to the SF Giants as a potential trade target

While a light-hitting infielder like Ramon Urias doesn't immediately look enticing as a trade piece, he does have some things going for him. He is a tremendous defender who can play pretty much anywhere in the infield (and has) except catcher, and would come with an extra year of team control after 2025 for teams that are looking for more than a bandaid solution.

After making the trade of the season so far, it seems like the Giants have Urias on their radar ahead of the deadline. Urias doesn't seem to help much with San Francisco's offensive woes in the infield, though, which has made this connection pretty tenuous at best at the moment.

Felix Bautista has been included in some truly unhinged trade proposals

Of the players that might actually get traded, Felix Bautista is probably the one that would net the Orioles the best return if they moved him. He is walking too many batters coming off his arm injury, but the rest of Bautista's game looks back to normal, and he is widely considered to be one of the better relievers in baseball. It doesn't hurt that he is under team control through 2027, although that both increases the possible price tag and could give Baltimore pause before moving him at all.

One thing for certain is that the Orioles wouldn't move Bautista for the bizarre package proposed by The Athletic's Jim Bowden that would send Bautista AND Cedric Mullins to the Phillies for pitcher Mick Abel. Baltimore definitely needs a starting pitcher and Abel could end up being good, but using your two best trade chips for a kid with five career big league starts (including his last one where the Mets beat up on him) doesn't seem wise.
