With the MLB trade deadline two weeks away, Ken Rosenthal decided to drop his latest intel following the All-Star break. The Baltimore Orioles remain at the center of all deadline discussions, assuming they choose to sell. The Orioles have two rental bats--Ryan O'Hearn and Cedric Mullins--who figure to be moved, but Rosenthal notes that two pitchers are gaining attention.
"Baltimore Orioles right-hander Charlie Morton and left-hander Trevor Rogers are examples of how quickly a player’s trajectory – and trade value – might change."
Since May 14, Morton has been one of the best pitchers in the American League. In 8 starts, 49 2/3 innings pitched, since then, Morton has an ERA of 2.72 while striking out over 27 percent of the hitters he has faced.
A free agent after the season, there is going to be interest in Morton at the deadline, considering the limited number of defined sellers and the overall need for pitching across the contenders. Interestingly enough, Rosenthal has been pushing the connection of Morton to the Boston Red Sox.
We saw with the trade of Bryan Baker to the Tampa Bay Rays last week that the Orioles aren't afraid of doing business with division rivals ahead of the deadline. Morton would help stabilize the middle of the Red Sox's rotation.

Rosenthal also mentions that interest is also building in Trevor Rogers. Acquired by the Orioles at the trade deadline last season in a deal with the Miami Marlins, Rogers has been excellent this season with an ERA of 1.53 through 6 starts. A knee injury delayed Rogers' start to the season, but the success he has had upon his return will have interested teams calling the Orioles. Rogers has another season of control following 2025.
Players like Morton and Rogers are the reason why the deadline can be an impactful moment for the Orioles moving forward. With the right deals and getting the right talent back, the Orioles can quickly return to contention in 2026.
