After arguably their worst loss of the 2025 season, the Baltimore Orioles will have a new voice leading the ship in the clubhouse. The Orioles announced Saturday morning that they relieved manager Brandon Hyde of his duties, ending a partnership that began in 2019.

The move doesn’t come as a shock to anyone as the Orioles endure their worst start to a season since 2019. Baltimore has lost 10 of 13 games in May and is 15-28, more than 10 games behind first place in the American League East.

Friday night's loss was the final straw for Hyde, even if it wasn’t his fault the Orioles couldn’t break a season-long trend. The O's recorded 14 hits but managed to score just three runs in a 4-3 loss to the Washington Nationals. They left 15 runners on base and were 4-for-15 with runners in scoring position. Baltimore's season batting average with runners in scoring position is .192, the worst in Major League Baseball.

Orioles general manager Mike Elias thanked Hyde in a statement and again took the blame for the team's unexpected start to the season. He tabbed Hyde as Baltimore's manager a month after he took over as head of baseball operations in late 2018.

“As the head of baseball operations, the poor start to our season is ultimately my responsibility,” Elias said. “Part of that responsibility is pursuing difficult changes in order to set a different course for the future."

Orioles owner David Rubenstein said he is "sincerely grateful" for Hyde's contributions over his six years in charge.

"However, as is sometimes the case in baseball, change becomes necessary, and we believe this is one of those moments," Rubenstein said. "The Orioles organization is truly appreciative of everything Brandon has contributed during his tenure, and we wish him nothing but success in whatever path he chooses next in the world of baseball."

The Orioles also fired Major League field coordinator and catching instructor Tim Cossins, who joined Hyde's staff in 2019 upon his initial hire.

Tony Mansolino will serve as Baltimore's interim manager. Mansolino is in his fifth season with the Orioles and was working as the club's third base coach before earning the interim manager tag.
