Orioles fans can directly blame Yankees for their most egregious All-Star snub

In what has been a tough season for the Baltimore Orioles, the development of Jackson Holliday has been a very welcome silver lining. After what can best be described as a challenging rookie season, Holliday has started to show all of the promise that got him picked first overall back in 2022. Given how weak the American League's group of second basemen is this year, he also looked like a real candidate for the 2025 All-Star Game.

While Holliday's numbers overall don't jump off the page, the young budding star is on track for roughly a 20-20 season which, at second base, is usually more than enough pace to get an All-Star nod. Unfortunately, the Tigers' Gleyber Torres was the easy first choice as he has been on a campaign to make New York regret giving up on him. However, another Yankees infielder, Jazz Chisholm Jr., unfortunately got the All-Star roster nod over Holliday for the Midsummer Classic.

Jackson Holliday played like an All-Star, but got beat out by Jazz Chisholm's hot streak

Unfortunately for Holliday, the numbers certainly were not in his favor head to head versus Chisholm. As frustrating a hitter as Chisholm can be, he has put up the same sort of baserunning numbers that Holliday has while showcasing more power than him. Combine all of that along with a better ability to get on base, and Chisholm has just been a more valuable player this year.

The one quibble one can have with the choice is Chisholm being considered a second baseman given how much he has played third base as well this year. Unfortunately, there is no real way to guard against that. Chisholm was picked as a reserve for starters which doesn't technically have a position requirement. He also has played a good bit of second base and not allowing him to be eligible would disadvantage all players who move around the field which would feel worse.

It is unfortunate that Orioles fans won't get the chance to see Holliday play in the All-Star Game as he is clearly rounding into form and will be an important part of the team's future in all likelihood. Sadly, a hated division rival instead added yet another disappointment to this season.
