With the World Series now over, congrats to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Baltimore Orioles will likely have an introductory press conference for Craig Albernaz in the coming days. Albernaz isn't waiting to make changes, however. Multiple reports have confirmed that Robinson Chirinos won't be returning as the Orioles' bench coach.
2025 was Chirinos' first season on the Orioles' coaching staff, replacing Fredi González as Brandon Hyde's right-hand man. It was his first post on a Major League coaching staff, and needless to say, things could have been better. Hyde was fired within the first two months of the season, and the Orioles would go on to be one of the most disappointing teams in all of baseball.
As of now, Chirinos remains under contract with the Orioles, but he has been granted permission to explore job opportunities elsewhere.
Finalizing his coaching staff will likely be the first item on Albernaz's to-do list after his opening press conference with the team. It remains to be seen what the fate will be for Tony Mansolino. Mansolino served as the Orioles' interim manager after Hyde was fired, and by all accounts, had the support of the clubhouse.
Craig Albernaz makes first call as manager while interim remains in limbo
Mansolino was believed to be a candidate to get the interim label removed this offseason, but ultimately, the Orioles' front office decided on the external hire in Albernaz. While it could be awkward remaining on a coaching staff while no longer serving as a team's manager, it's not entirely uncommon.
Last season, Grady Sizemore remained with the Chicago White Sox's Major League coaching staff under first-year manager Will Venable. Sizemore served as the White Sox's interim manager the previous year, and like Mansolino, earned the respect of the clubhouse he was in.
Assuming Mansolino is interested in returning to the Orioles, bringing him back would be a smart move. Especially as Albernaz gets an understanding of the organization in his first season.
