Hidden connection makes Orioles-Dylan Beavers extension closer than fans think

The 2025 season was mostly disappointing for Baltimore Orioles fans. The team came into the season with aspirations of winning the AL East on the backs of all of their young talent, and instead, they missed the playoffs entirely. And some are wondering if Mike Elias is the guy who can carry the Orioles forward. However, one silver lining from this season was the emergence of Dylan Beavers.

While it took longer than it should have, Beavers getting called up gave the Orioles offense a different dimension and gave them a guy who has a penchant for coming up big in clutch situations. His overall line of .227/.375/.400 may not look that exciting, but there are already some who are calling for the Orioles to give Beavers an extension based on his overall performance, including in the minors.

Baltimore already successfully gave Samuel Basallo an extension as a young player, but the Orioles have yet to do so beyond that move, and there is no guarantee whatsoever that Beavers would be open to one, as it could undervalue him in the long term. However, the Orioles do have some hope of being able to get a deal done, given that Beavers' agency is the same one that negotiated rookie extensions for Jackson Chourio and Kristian Campbell.

Dylan Beavers' agent could be the key to unlocking an extension with the Orioles

If Beavers were represented by Scott Boras like some of their other young players, this would be a moot point. Unless the Orioles were to massively overpay, there is no world where Boras would let one of his guys sign an extension this early on. However, things are a little different given that Beavers is repped by the Beverly Hills Sports Council, which has been much more agreeable to such deals.

However, just because Beavers' agent got nice paydays for Chourio and Campbell does not mean that a deal with Beavers is a slam dunk. Yes, his agent could play ball, but finding a number that is agreeable for both sides could be tricky because Beavers is likely to value himself a lot more than what his 2025 MLB production shows. The odds are high that any offer Baltimore would give Beavers would not approach what those two guys (or Basallo for that matter) got, and that may kill the first round of talks before they even start.

Still, it is nice that there is a real chance that the two sides could have talks down the road that might actually be fruitful. While talks right now might not make the most sense for either side, extension talks could get real pretty quickly if Beavers gets off to a good start and the Orioles become convinced to open their wallets a bit. For now, that will have to be enough.
