After the extension reached by the Blue Jays and Vladimir Guerrero Jr that will have the first baseman playing out the rest of his career north of the border, the next big piece to fall could be Cubs newly acquired outfielder, Kyle Tucker.

The Orioles' AL East rival New York Yankees were connected to the Tucker sweepstakes over the winter. Despite ultimately declining a trade that would have sent the American League Rookie of the Year Luis Gil to the Astros, along with minor league infielder George Lombard Jr, the opportunity to land one of the league's premier outfielders had once again passed New York by.

Assuming that the Cubs continue their negotiations and take Tucker off the market before he reaches free agency, that would result in Yankees fans once again unraveling about missing out on a superstar. Following the World Series, the Yankees failed to reunite with outfielder Juan Soto, prompting him to sign across town in Queens with the New York Mets.

If the Cubs extend Kyle Tucker, Yankees fans will lose their minds

Yankees fans did not take the news well, trashing the decision by the superstar. Fans burned Soto jerseys and have since gone to Mets games to boo him. Soto was a key piece for the Yankees in their run to the World Series last year, having an MVP-like season, if not only for Aaron Judge also playing to his best.

Yankees fans have missed many superstars in free agency and they fall back on the excuse that the player couldn't handle the bright lights of New York City. If the Cubs retain Tucker prior to this coming offseason, the Yankees will have nobody to blame but themselves when they decided to decline the Astros offer by holding onto Luis Gil. Gil has yet to suit up for the Yankees this season as he is dealing with a lat strain that will leave him in the dugout for three months.

Yankees fans can often get obnoxious in the offseason when superstar names are floating around and with their constant rotation of players at first base and in the outfield the past few seasons. Losing out on both Guerrero and Tucker would cause them to look to another direction for the future. With more and more teams signing young stars to cheaper and longer contracts before they hit the open market, the days of multiple major names for bidding may be coming to a close, and forcing the Yankees to change their ways.
