The Baltimore Orioles' starting rotation should be a point of emphasis for them this offseason. Last offseason, Baltimore went out and traded for Shane Baz from the Rays to boost the rotation, but they were also hoping for a return to form from Trevor Rogers, which they didn't get.

Baltimore's starters this season were middle of the pack. They were 15th in fWAR and 17th in ERA. The problem is that Trevor Rogers is a free agent whom they hope they can re-sign, but it will be challenging, and Chris Bassitt is also headed to free agency. Baz and Kyle Bradish are best used as No. 2 and No. 3 starters, so the Orioles should be looking for an ace to put at the top of the rotation.

David Rubenstein has increased payroll since becoming the owner of the Orioles, and they should use that to their advantage this winter. Teams around MLB have ace-level starters who are starting to become too pricey for their payrolls, and the Orioles, with their stacked farm system, should take advantage.

3 aces who the Orioles should explore on the trade market this offseason

Joe Ryan - Twins

Ryan has been in trade rumors for well over a year now. Multiple teams have inquired about his services, but each time the Twins don't pull the trigger. Ryan has a mutual option for $13 million this offseason that will almost surely be declined, and he'll be in his final year of salary arbitration and will get a raise.

After missing the playoffs for the third straight season, Minnesota may finally decide to let Ryan go and try to rebuild the farm system they hampered by trying to buy at this year's deadline. Ryan has consistently looked like a top-of-the-rotation arm, and even though he is a one-year rental, he would be an excellent addition to the O's rotation.

Logan Gilbert - Mariners

Seattle went through a weird period this season where they had six starters they wanted to get innings for, but didn't want to do a six-man rotation. They cleared that up by trading Luis Castillo at the trade deadline, but still are overloaded with starters. After a very disappointing season, they could be selling from their rotation again.

Gilbert is also headed into his final year of arbitration, and MLB Trade Rumors projects his salary to be just over $15 million this season. With the Mariners' starters George Kirby, Bryan Woo, and Bryce Miller all in arbitration as well, their rotation is going to be expensive. Trading Gilbert would not only clear up a good chunk of cash, but it would open room in the rotation for top prospect Kade Anderson to have a full-time spot in the rotation. Baltimore could take on Gilbert's salary, and he would easily jump to the top of their rotation.

Reid Detmers - Angels

The lefty finally had the breakout season that Los Angeles had been hoping for. Detmers pitched to a 3.36 ERA in 185 innings this season and also eclipsed 200 strikeouts. His 4.9 fWAR almost doubled his career total.

The 27-year-old was on the trade block at the trade deadline, with a deal reported at one point that he was going to the Cubs. Even though he wasn't traded, there isn't any reason the Angels shouldn't be fielding calls for him this offseason.

Unlike the other two pitchers on this list, Detmers has two years left of team control, but MLB Trade Rumors is already projecting his salary at $7.5 million. While not overly high right now it will be the following year. His trade value is likely at its highest this offseason for L.A., but the Orioles have the capital to make this kind of splash move.
