Baltimore Orioles sign OF Nomar Mazara
Tuesday afternoon, the Baltimore Orioles inked veteran, left-handed hitting outfielder Nomar Mazara to a minor league contract.
Mazara, 27, spent last season with the San Diego Padres, hitting .265 with two home runs, 18 RBIs, and a .668 OPS (on base plus slugging). A native of the Dominican Republic, Mazara’s best season from a power perspective came in 2017 with the Texas Rangers, when he hit 20 home runs and drove in 101 RBIs in 554 at bats.
Since leaving the Rangers after the 2019 season, Mazara has bounced between the Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, and Padres while struggling to maintain a spot on a major league roster. The Orioles should still be in the market for another bat, as Mazara does not project as a starter. Instead, Mazara will likely compete with recently signed Franchy Cordero to be a left-handed power bat off the Orioles bench.
Warehouse Watch: Nomar Mazara
Should Nomar Mazara make the Baltimore Orioles, the B&O Warehouse will definitely need to be on watch, as Mazara hit one of the most prodigious home run blasts of the StatCast Era as a member of the Rangers. The Orioles still hope he has some power left in the tank to help as a situational power bat, should he make the team.
