Orioles News 11/21/22 – O’s outfield options, Bellinger analysis, and more MLB news

Examining the Outfield

If the Orioles are to add a player in free agency, a former outfielder would be a logical choice. This isn’t to say that the O’s don’t have plenty of in-house options, though. Birds Watcher Contributor Michael Najarian examined each of the possible outfield options the Orioles already have should they choose to allocate funds elsewhere. Could Heston Kjerstad be an option at some point in 2023?

Is Cody Bellinger worth taking a shot on?

Cody Bellinger became a free agent after the Los Angeles Dodgers declined to tender the 27 year old a contract. The 2019 NL MVP has experienced a sharp decline since winning the award, but would he be a worthwhile lottery ticket for the Orioles? Probably not.

Verlander Considering New York?

Are the New York Mets considering a contingency plan in case Jacob deGrom leaves? It sure seems so, though they could just go full degenerate and commit $75 million annually to both. Steve Cohen don’t care.

Regarding Verlander though, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that last season’s AL Cy Young winner had a Zoom meeting with Mets brass last week. Most expect the Verlander and deGrom will remain with their respective clubs, but is there a scenario in which deGrom heads to Houston and Verlander replaces him in New York?! It would mark the first time Verlander and Max Scherzer pitched in the same rotation since they were members of a 2014 Detroit Tigers team that Orioles fans remember oh so fondly.
