Baltimore Orioles Redeem Themselves Vs. Rays (8/12/22)

Orioles used a big sixth inning to blow out the Rays.

The Orioles had a good showing in the series opener against the Rays.  After losing on Thursday in Boston, the Orioles went to Tampa Bay and made a statement.

The Orioles starting lineup:

C. Mullins CF, 2. A. Rutschman C, 3. R. Mountcastle 1B, 4. A. Santander DH, 5. T. Vavra LF, 6. A. Hays RF, 7. R. Odor 2B, 8. R. Urias 3B, 9. J. Mateo SS

The starter for the O’s was Austin Voth (2-1, 5.53 ERA, 54 K).

The Rays starting lineup:

R. Arozarena RF, 2. D. Peralta LF, 3. Y. Diaz 3B, 4. B. Lowe DH, 5. Y. Chang 2B, 6. J. Choi 1B, 7. C. Bethancourt C, 8. T. Walls SS, 9. J. Siri CF

The Rays pitcher was Corey Kluber (7-6, 4.05 ERA, 99 K).

The Orioles started the game with a bang as Adley Rutschman hit a 439-foot home run (6) to give the O’s a 1-0 lead in the first.

Jorge Mateo hit a double to score Rougned Odor. 2-0 O’s in the 2nd.

Rutschman hit a sacrifice fly to score Mateo in the 5th to give the O’s a 3-0 lead.

Odor hit a single to score Anthony Santander in the 6th. Ramon Urias hit a sac fly to score Austin Hays for the O’s to pad their lead even more. 5-0 Orioles.

The inning didn’t end there as Jorge Mateo hit a single to score Odor and to move the score to 6-0.

Shawn Armstrong (5.09 ERA) relieved Kluber. Cedric Mullins hits a single to score Mateo to chalk up another run, 7-0 O’s.

Austin Voth had a no-hitter going until the 6th when Jose Siri got the Rays’ first hit of the game.

Randy Arozarena also ended the shutout as he hit a 390-foot two-run home run (14) to give the Rays a little bit of hope, 7-2. Voth was relieved by Keegan Akin (2.76 ERA) in the 6th.

Odor got another RBI as he hit a single in the 7th to score Santander again to give the O’s an 8-2 lead.

Joey Krehbiel (2.27 ERA) relieved Akin. Taylor Wells hit a double and Christian Bethancourt scored as the Rays still trail 8-3.

Jimmy Yacabonis (8.18 ERA) came in for the Rays in the 8th.

Cedric Mullins hit a 411-foot solo home run (10) to the catwalks to add onto the Orioles lead and made it 9-3.

Cionel Perez (1.14 ERA) entered in the 8th for the O’s.

Position player Yu Chang (18.00 ERA) came in to pitch for the Rays in the 9th.  he was throwing lobs down in the 30’s and 40’s.  Ramon Urias hit a sac fly to give the O’s the 10-3 lead.

Louis Head (6.84 ERA) came in to finish the game for the O’s without a save opportunity.

The Orioles put away game 1 of the three-game series with a 10-3 win.
