The Orioles continue their winning streak against the Pirates (8/6/22)

After a series opener win at Camden Yards on Friday, the Baltimore Orioles attempted to further their wild card hunt in the middle game of the 3 game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Baltimore Orioles starting lineup:

C. Mullins CF, 2. A. Rutschman C, 3. A. Santander RF, 4. R. Mountcastle 1B, 5. T. Vavra DH, 6. R. Urias 3B, 7. R. Odor 2B, 8. J. Mateo SS, 9. B. Phillips LF

The man on the mound for the O’s was Austin Voth (1-1, 5.54 ERA, 49K)

The Pirates starting lineup:

K.  Newman SS, 2. B. Reynolds CF, 3. B. Gamel RF, 4. K. Hayes 3B, 5. O. Cruz DH, 6. T. Marcano 2B, 7. G. Allen LF, 8. J. VanMeter 1B, 9. J. Delay C

The starter was JT Brubaker (2-9, 4.40 ERA, 105K)

The Orioles started game 2 of the series out in high fashion. Terrin Vavra hit a single to score Adley Rutschman in the 1st. 1-0 Orioles.

In the 2nd inning, they did not slow down as Jorge Mateo his a single to score Rougned Odor. Brett Phillips repays the favor as he hit a double to score Mateo. 3-0 Orioles.

In the top of the 4th Oneil Cruz SMOKED a ball 420 feet for a 2-run home run (9) to bring the game to 3-2 O’s.

Eric Stout (2.57 ERA) relieved JT Brubaker. Brubaker’s ERA changed to 4.49 as he let up 3 runs but had 6 strikeouts in his outing.

Ryan McKenna came in to pinch hit for Brett Phillips. McKenna hit a 2-RBI double to give the O’s a 5-2 lead in the 5th.

The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Pirates for the second consecutive night

The Pirates youth did what they were known to do in this game. Ke’Bryan Hayes hit an RBI single to shrink the lead down to 2 runs as the score was now 5-3.

Keegan Akin (2.43 ERA) came in for relief for the O’s. Austin Voth’s ERA moved to 5.53 as he let up 3 runs in 5 innings but had 5 strikeouts.

Duane Underwood Jr. (3.77 ERA) relieved Stout in the 6th.

Joey Krehbiel (2.35 ERA) comes in for the Orioles in the 7th inning. Akin moved his ERA down to 2.39.

Chase De Jong (1.95 ERA) comes in for the Pirates to pitch in the 7th inning.

Cedric Mullins hit a sacrifice fly to score Rougned Odor. 6-3 Orioles in the 7th inning.

Nick Vespi (4.50 ERA) comes in for the top of the 8th.

Dillon Tate (2.31 ERA) came in for the Orioles for the save.

The Orioles and the Pirates will play the final game of the series tomorrow Sunday, August 7th at 1:35 PM EST.
