Predicting the Baltimore Orioles starting lineup after the trade deadline
We’re a month from the MLB trade deadline, and it is still up in the air if the Baltimore Orioles will be full-timer sellers or not.
Looking through the wishing well, we can see that it might be possible for the Baltimore Orioles to lose both Trey Mancini and Anthony Santander. For the record, I’m not too fond of it, but for the sake of this prediction, let’s start you out with the disappointing news of this trade coming to fruition. With that being said, here is our predicted starting lineup for the O’s once the deadline is passed.
1. Cedric Mullins, Orioles starting Center Fielder
Although his name has been flown around quite a bit, don’t expect Cedric Mullins to be anywhere but his favorite home in center field at OPACY. Mullins has continued to be a staple in the leadoff spot, and with the summer coming full circle, don’t expect that to change.

2. Austin Hays, Orioles starting Right Fielder
It feels weird to say that your Baltimore Orioles starting Right Fielder is THE DUDE, Austin Hays. However, with Santander heading out, the O’s have played him more there and have excelled mightily. His arm has grown, and now he is a threat on every angle of the ball.
3. Ryan Mountcastle, Orioles starting First Baseman
Ryan Mountcastle has typically been anywhere in the lineup from 3-5 and has been split between DH and 1B. With Mancini gone, Ryan will now become the everyday First Baseman. The three-hole is a perfect spot for the O’s face of the franchise and hopefully will be for years to come. His power and finesse will make the 3rd spot in the lineup his.
4. Adley Rutschman, Orioles starting Catcher
From starting his 2022 season in rehab and now hitting clean-up, Adley Rutschman has the possibility to see it all by the end of August, literally. After most of the baseball world slated off his slow start, the No.1 prospect has turned it on.
He might not have clean-up power, but he will be the perfect slot in this role with Trey and Anthony gone. With every at-bat, he gets better and is constantly learning the big league game. Please don’t sleep on him anymore because he has officially arrived.
5. Ramon Urias, Orioles starting Third Baseman
The month of June ended well but was bleak at times without the bat of Ramon Urias. With him back and healthy (hopefully to stay that way), he will be back in his typical role at 3B. The 5th spot is a little higher than some will want, but things need to adjust in losing two of your top five hitters.
Urias has done well this year, taking pitches and staying clutch when it’s needed. Batting behind the Baltimore Orioles predicted 1-4; he will have ample opportunity to drive in runs and stay clutch. If he can stay healthy, 3B and the five-spot can be his for the rest of the 2022 campaign.

6. Tyler Nevin, Orioles starting Designated Hitter
Yes, I know Tyler Nevin is slumping and should in no way be the Designated Hitter for the Baltimore Orioles. However, who else can make the immediate impact that he has the potential to do. Slumps happen, but his ability is there.
This may change by the end of the year, but for the sake of this article and after the trade deadline, Tyler Nevin is our guy for DH. If he can get his confidence reignited and focus on hitting more than both hitting and fielding, he can be a force batting 6th.
7. Rougned Odor/Terrian Vavra, Orioles Platooned Second Basemen
I am writing this as Rougned Odor has just tied the Baltimore Orioles up against the Rangers. With his raw power, and veteran poise, it’s hard to find him anywhere but in this lineup. However, with certain moves come particular roster openings.
Terrian Vavra has been a complete terror for the Norfolk Tides opposition, and Mike Elias would be wise to give him a chance in The Show. If Vavra gets the call to come up, expect he and Rougie to share time at 2B as the O’s work through the rest of the 2022 campaign.
8. Ryan McKenna/Kyle Stowers, Orioles Platooned Left Fielders
Just like at second base, expect left field to have a platoon effect to it. Ryan McKenna has taken his second call-up of the year with heart and has held his own for the Baltimore Orioles. He has finally figured out big-league pitching and deserves a spot on this year’s roster.
With him, however, will be Kyle Stowers. Stowers has already gotten a shot this year with the big club and didn’t exactly hit it in stride. His first MLB hit was a double, scoring Adley Rutschman, but that was where the fun ended. I predict that McKenna and Stowers will be sharing time out in left and hitting somewhere near the bottom of this lineup.

9. Jorge Mateo, Orioles starting Shortstop
Last but certainly not least, we have Jorge Mateo. What an absolute surprise he has become this year and will continue to be in the future. Mateo is a sure hand at Shortstop and has sometimes been clutch in the box. The role of the number nine hitter is to turn the lineup over; challenge accepted.
In the long run, this lineup will work, but it will certainly not win the Baltimore Orioles a World Championship. However, it is a step in the right direction. With the right moves and the right roster call-ups, the 2022 O’s can continue this rebuild down the right path.
