As season long trends are beginning to take form, the National Media is once again snubbing the Baltimore Orioles in their power rankings.

The Baltimore Orioles are flying high, winning four out of their last five games. They are also leading or close to leading the American League in hitting so far in May. So, why does the National Media have such a bone to pick with the O’s? Why are they not getting any love?

You could argue that they are right where they should be, but it’s not so much the where, but the why. The why being; why are the Red Sox, Rangers, and in some cases the Pittsburgh Pirates above the Orioles?  Before getting into where we think they should be, let’s look at where some of the media outlets believe the O’s should be.

MLB.com has the Orioles sitting at 26th, previously 29th. Bleacher Report moved the O’s up to 22nd, previously 26th. ESPN.com gave them a slight jump going from 29th to 28th. Sports Illustrated now have the O’s at 25th after previously being at 28th. All four major outlets have the Orioles on the rise, which they should, but they are snubbing them by who is still above them.

Let’s start with the Rangers. They, like the Orioles had an stellar week and have won five out of there last eight games. Besides the Yankees, Texas has played sub .500 sides much like the Orioles, with the Twins being their only reputable outing last week.

The O’s have a better winning % and have won more out of the past ten games. If you are telling me you base power rankings off of things like this, then there is no way that the Rangers should be above the Orioles. Moving from the American League to the National League, we look at the Pirates rankings and them being ahead of the Orioles in three of the four listed outlets.

The only media team to put Baltimore ahead of Pittsburgh has been Bleacher Report, putting them in 23rd, right behind the Orioles. However, MLB.com, SI, and ESPN all the the Pirates edging out the O’s in their rankings. Why? Pittsburgh has lost six out of their last ten, and are falling quickly. I guess we all have to wait until August, to see who really is the better side;  its the O’s.

In closing out our argument against National Media, let’s look at the pondering notion that the Red Sox are currently better than the Orioles (except for Bleacher Report). Firstly, we are in 4th, they are 5th. The O’s took two out of three just over a week ago, and in being completely unbias, the BoSox are horrible right now only winning two from there last ten.

Next. The Orioles offense tops the AL so far in May, but can they stay red hot?. dark

At the end of the day, none of this matters because there is so many games left to be played. However, the constant bombardment from the media has become annoying over the last month, as the O’s are just not getting the recognition they deserve. Taking our bias glasses off, it’s easy to see why they are where they are, but there are a few teams that have no right being above them.
