The Baltimore Orioles’ interest in Carlos Correa has been confirmed.

In a tweet on Twitter by Raul Ramos of ConLasBasesFull, the Baltimore Orioles’ interest in free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa has finally been confirmed. The interest was before the Major League Baseball lockout, which is still going on. Who knows how serious the interest is, but it’s good to hear that the Orioles might be at least semi-active this offseason.

Earlier in the offseason, Jesse Rogers of ESPN wrote a piece about Correa being open to a rebuild. Correa went through a rebuild with the Houston Astros and helped them become consistent a winning team that ultimately won the World Series. The Orioles are still a few years away from becoming a winning team, but the pieces are in place.

Adding Correa to a lineup that includes Cedric Mullins, Ryan Mountcastle, Trey Mancini, Austin Hayes, and Adley Rutschman would be fun to watch on a nightly basis. Let’s not forget about the top pitching prospects in the organization like Grayson Rodriguez and D.L. Hall that could anchor the rotation for years to come. The winning could come sooner than we think.

Now, we don’t know what type of contract Carlos Correa will want and if the Orioles are going to want to spend that type of money. The last big contract the Orioles had was from Chris Davis, and we all know how that went. Will the front office be hesitant to give long-term deals now after experiencing the Davis contract?

Sure, the Orioles are going through a rebuild, but I’m sure Correa has seen the stories of Camden Yards going through some renovations in the outfield. Would that have an impact on HIS interest in being a Baltimore Oriole knowing that he won’t be able to put up great numbers year in and year out playing in a hitter-friendly ballpark? The Orioles might have interest, but we really have no idea how serious this interest in Carlos Correa actually is.
