Baltimore Orioles: What to Know About the O’s 2022 Schedule

The newly released Baltimore Orioles 2022 regular season schedule includes division rivalries, marquee matchups, holiday events, and more

On Wednesday, Major League Baseball and its 30 clubs released the official schedule for the upcoming 2022 regular season. Among the released slates was the Baltimore Orioles‘ schedule, laying out which teams the O’s will face, where they’ll face them, and on what day the matchup is set to take place.

As is customary in MLB, the teams that will square off in interleague play rotates by division each year. In 2021, the Orioles and the rest of the AL East took on teams from the NL East. Come next season, the division the O’s will match up against teams from the NL Central, matching up with the Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals, and Chicago Cubs (two games) on the road as well as welcoming the Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs (two games), and Pittsburgh Pirates to Oriole Park at Camden Yards throughout the year.

MLB Opening Day (3/31)

After opening the season on the road for the last three seasons, the Orioles are back at Camden Yards for Opening Day in 2022, hosting the Toronto Blue Jays in a three-game set. The last time the O’s took on the Blue Jays on Opening Day was 2017, a game in which former Orioles outfielder Mark Trumbo hit a walk-off home run off Jason Grilli to secure the win for Baltimore.

Jackie Robinson Day (4/15)

The tradition of each player donning the number “42” will be brought to Baltimore in 2022. The Orioles are set to open a three-game weekend series at home against the New York Yankees on Jackie Robinson Day, giving the home crowd the opportunity to enjoy a Friday night baseball game and honor the legacy of one of baseball’s greatest people, Jackie Robinson.

Independence Day (7/4)

With Independence Day falling on a Monday in 2022, the Orioles will begin the week with a series against the Texas Rangers at Camden Yards. With Baltimore so deeply rooted in the early history of the United States, having the festivities take place in Charm City in 2022 is an exciting event for baseball fans to look forward to.

Final Day of the Regular Season (10/2)

To close out the 2022 regular season, the Orioles will travel to the Bronx and battle the New York Yankees. The series will come on the heels of a three-game road trip to Boston, making the final week of the season one that fans will have to travel to see. However, these division rivals will most likely be jockeying for playoff position, which gives the O’s a chance at playing the spoiler.
