The Baltimore Orioles have continued to receive honors for star players, including Ryan Mountcastle’s AL Player of the Week award on Monday

Despite the losing record, the Baltimore Orioles find another player receiving honors this season. On Monday, the MLB announced that Ryan Mountcastle was named American League Player of the week.

Mountcastle, 24, is in his second season with Baltimore, although he is still qualified as a rookie after the shortened 2020 season. The 2015 first-round draft pick from Florida is finding himself at home in Baltimore. When looking at Mountcastle’s numbers from the first week of June, it’s easy to see why he was named AL Player of the Week, recording a hit in all six games played last week.

Mountcastle went 11-24 (.458) in those six games, hitting four home runs and three doubles. He also had 10 RBIs and had an OPS of 1.563.

“As of right now, I’m feeling pretty good,” Mountcastle told PressBox. “I’ll try to keep it rolling.”

Mountcastle also finds himself in the record books. He homered in three straight games in June. He is the first Orioles rookie to accomplish the feat since Jonathan Schoop in 2014.

Before being called up in 2020, the Orioles gave Mountcastle high praise. During his time in the minors, Mountcastle played in 524 games, recorded 612 hits, 70 home runs, and had 274 RBIs.

Mountcastle is the second Orioles player to be named AL Player of the Week this season. Left-handed pitcher John Means won in May after throwing a no-hitter against the Seattle Mariners.

So far this season with the Orioles, Mountcastle has played in 55 games, recorded 51 hits, has eight home runs and 31 RBIs.

While the Orioles are not performing well, players like Mountcastle bring hope to the organization. Mountcastle is one of the few positive things going for Baltimore. Expect the young star to get more work in the lineup as the season progresses.
