Player Of The Month: Anthony Santander

Entering the season, Anthony Santander was the Orioles fifth outfielder. He started the season in Triple-A while Cedric Mullins, Joey Rickard and Dwight Smith Jr. all made the opening day roster and DJ Stewart got his chance in the majors a few weeks before Santander’s call-up.

Instead of being discouraged Santander kept his calm and since being recalled from Norfolk on June 7th has been among the Orioles best players. Santander put together a monster month of July slashing .304/.346/.526 with four home runs and 18 RBI’s.

He also has proven versatile as he has proved he can play both corner outfield positions and even some centerfield.

While no one expected Santander to be a major player for the Orioles in 2019 he has been just that and is now undoubtedly in the team’s future plans as they look to continue to find the pieces to move forward with during their rebuild.

Though it’s close between Santander and Nunez for player of the month will go Santander due to the perseverance he has shown this season.
