With the MLB Trade Deadline nine days away we make our final trade predictions for the Baltimore Orioles.

We’re officially less than 10 days away from the 2019 MLB Trade deadline on July 31st. As Mike Elias said no player on the Baltimore Orioles roster is safe thus these nine days will be filled with a lot of uncertainty for many on the roster.

While it’s safe to assume all-star John Means and younger players such as Stevie Wilkerson and Anthony Santander who now appear to be part of the team’s future plans are going to stay put many players will be shipped off for young players.

Who exactly will be on the move? Who will stay put? Let’s make some final predictions.

Orioles Trade Mychal Givens To Phillies

If there’s one player on the Baltimore Orioles roster most likely to be traded its closer, Mychal Givens.

After hitting a wall in May Givens has rebounded nicely of late boosting his trade stock considerably.

If one team is going to offer a large haul of prospects, it’s the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies spent a ton of money in free-agency and overpaid for players such as Jean Segura and J.T. Realmuto by sending large prospect packages.

In need of a reliever, there’s a good chance they’d give a lot to get a flame thrower like Givens. Here’s what an Orioles/Phillies trade for Givens could look like:

With this deal, the Phillies would get their man in Givens, and the O’s would get two solid pitching prospects in Kevin Gowdy and Jhordany Mezquita. Gowdy was the Phillies 2nd round selection in the 2016 draft and currently is rated as their 24th ranked prospect.

Gowdy is a 21-year-old returned from Tommy John Surgery in 2019 and has spent the season at Low-A Lakewood where he’s both been a starter and reliever. As for Mezquita, he is also a 21-year-old who with the Phillies Low-A affiliate in Lakewood, New Jersey. He has appeared in 19 games 10 of which being starts and has posted a 4.41 ERA.

An organization can never have too many arms, and if the Orioles can make a deal where they flip Givens into multiple young arms, it would be a successful one. The team most likely to allow this to happen is the Phillies who are looking to end their seven-year playoff drought.
