This weekend marked one of the best moments of the 2019 season as the Baltimore Orioles earned a series victory over the rival Red Sox.

The Baltimore Orioles played spoiler this weekend as they took two out of three games from the rival Boston Red Sox.

Friday evening the O’s pounded the Red Sox 11-2, but Saturday Boston returned the favor with a 17-6 victory that forced Baltimore to pitch outfielder Stevie Wilkerson in the games final two innings.

In Sunday’s rubber match there was a little extra motivation for the Orioles as Andrew Cashner who the team traded to the Red Sox a little over a week ago took the mound.

The Orioles did not exactly welcome Cashner with open arms as in the first inning Trey Mancini hit his 20th home run of the season with a solo shot to give Baltimore an early lead.

In the bottom of the seventh Chris Davis continued to burn Boston as he ripped an RBI double to extend the O’s lead to 2-0.

The Birds would cash in again in the third as Mancini hit his second home run of the game with a two-run shot to mark his second multi-home run game in his last five games.

Finally, Johnathan Vilar padded the lead in the bottom of the eighth as he ripped a solo shot off to put Baltimore on top 5-0.

On the mound, Asher Wojciechowski was masterful. The 30-year-old journeyman created his signature Orioles moment by tossing seven and a third scoreless innings that saw him strike out 10 and allow just one hit.

Looking to lock down the victory Baltimore’s two most reliable relievers Paul Fry and Mychal Givens shut the door on a combined one-hitter, and 5-0 Baltimore Orioles win.

With the victory, the Orioles clinched their third series victory since breaking a two-month series losing streak on June 29th. The team will now head to Arizona where they’ll take on old friend Adam Jones and the Diamondbacks again looking to play spoiler to an Arizona club very much alive in the National League wild-card race.
